SHS Media

Salem High School Media won several awards at this year’s IUS Media Day. While the yearbook, newspaper and broadcast programs have been around for several years, this is the first year the groups have worked together under one umbrella as SHS Media. With the reorganizing of the team came new social media, a new website and more. 

“We are thrilled with the awards we received!” said SHS yearbook and newspaper advisor Monika Spaulding. “Our students work hard to cover events at Salem Schools and it is fun to see them recognized for their efforts!”

The 2024-25 yearbook staff won the following awards: 

  • First Place - Best Advertising Section

  • First Place - Best Clubs and Organizations Section

  • First Place - Best Sports Section

  • Second Place - Yearbook of the Year

  • Second Place - Best Design

  • Second Place - Best People Section

  • Second Place - Best Photography

  • Second Place - Best Coverage of Student Life

  • Third Place - Best Coverage of Academics

  • Third Place - Best Copy

The SHS Newspaper/Digital Media Class received seven awards at IUS Media Day, including third place for Newspaper of the Year. The class is taught by Mrs. Spaulding.

Salem Lions News Network Broadcast team received several awards as well! 

First place: 

  • The Best Video Story: Maple Syrup Festival.

  • Best Audio Play-by-Play: 2025 Luke & Luke Football Highlights IUS Competition

Second place: 

  • Best Audio Story: Monon Trail Radio Feature Story

  • Best On-Air Personality: Kendall Leis with Health and Wellness 

  • Best TV/Video Newscast: The Salem Show Season 15 Episode 2
