Salem High School art students swept the awards last weekend at the high school art show during Old Settlers Days. The artists’ work was shown at the John Hay Center. The winners were: first place Aubriana Colwell, second and third place Raewyn Perry and honorable mentions for Aubriana Colwell and Clair Shouse.
Colwell won first place with a symbolic self-portrait and got an honorable mention for her prismacolor artwork. Perry received second place with a watercolor painting award and an acrylic painting for her third place award. Shouse won with a piece of graphite artwork.
All art entered by students was in the running and these winners showed immense talent and great application of their medium.
“I think it’s a great way to showcase what our students can do, and it’s a great opportunity to share our work with the public,” said art teacher Carole Clodfelter. “I felt the winners were deserving, but I’m also glad I don’t have to judge it,”
The pieces selected were a great example of the students’ chosen medium and their dedication to their work.
