The BPA club went to the Regional Leadership Conference on Dec. 5 at Ivy Tech in Sellersburg. There were 11 students that signed up for BPA and competed at the event. Seven students are moving onto state competitions and two projects are still being judged at the state level to determine if they move on. If they do, there could be anywhere between 7 and 10 students moving onto the state competition in Indianapolis.
Those who qualified for state are: Brady Briscoe, who took 3rd place in Legal Office Procedures; Hunter Rutherford, who took 3rd place in Intermediate Word Processing; Aidan Short, who took 5th place in Basic Office; Mikayla Tremblett, who took 2nd place in Fundamental Spreadsheet and 3rd place in Graphic Design; Gunner Walton, who took 1st place in Computer Network Technology and 4th place in Computer Security; Ryder Wilson, who took 4th place in Legal Office Procedures and Layla Rutherford, who took 4th place in Basic Office.
BPA stands for Business Professionals of America. It's a national organization and requires strict guidelines on membership. You must be registered by the regional competition, as well as competing at regionals, in order to be able to participate in anything else. The rest of the year, BPA will be doing fundraisers, participating in service projects, networking with business, and practicing for their State Projects and tests. State will be in March and anyone that places in the top three will have an opportunity to move onto Nationals in Orlando, Fla., in May.
It is too late to join BPA this year, but you can talk to Mrs.White if you want to join next year.
